Professional Development Planning Guidelines and Procedures

The Goal of the Lafayette Parish School System’s Professional Development Program is to provide highly qualified employees. In order to help us ensure the continued quality of all the professional development programs in the parish and to ensure that teachers are earning the appropriate credit for their professional learning, please adhere to the following:

Scheduling Guidelines

  1. All professional development activities will focus on the school district’s professional development goals and priorities.
  2. Schedule professional development activities on Saturdays.  If the activity is state mandated,  it should be scheduled on Tuesdays through Thursdays.
  3. Do not schedule professional development activities on days preceding or following extended school holidays. Also, avoid  scheduling  professional development activities in December or May.
  4. During the spring semester, prior to testing, priority should be given to staff development activities focused on test preparation.
  5. A request to waive these professional development guidelines may be made at the bottom of the Professional Development Form.
