The Lafayette Parish Visually Impaired Program provides comprehensive educational services to VI students, Pre-K through 12.  The goal of the program is to empower students to lead vocationally, personally, and socially satisfying productive lives leading to their highest level of independence.

Some students choose to remain in their home zone school, while other students' needs are net within the Visually Impaired Consortium which is located at Woodvale Elementary, L.J. Alleman Middle School, and Lafayette High School.  The services include providing instruction in:  Braille, use of Low Vision aids, Orientation and Mobility, use of large print materials, technology for VI/BI, and accomodative techniques for success in the regular classroom.  In addition, Braille/Large Print materials and low vision equipment in conjunction with the Louisiana Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired are offered.  The program also provides direct and consultative support to all classroom teachers and staff involved with one of our students.
